sometimes a CORE class will leave you with more than you previously expected

When it comes to movies and books I am very picky. I thank my classes at BSU for this. During my almost two years at BSU I have taken classes (like theater appreciation and introduction to acting) that have introduced me to real acting and amazing works of writing.

For example, it has gotten to the point where watching movies isn’t nearly as enjoyable as it once was. Now while watching I look for things that my professors mentioned. Sometimes I look for techniques that the actors use or for slipups that were not caught during editing. I have become a critic of sorts.

Today I had the misfortune of watching a movie I thought was going to be enjoyable. It turns out it was the exact opposite. I fast forwarded through most of the scenes and only attempted to watch scenes that I thought might have some comic relief to the otherwise miserable hour wasted.

In no way do I claim to be an amazing actress or to know anything about being an actress. All I’m saying is that before having taken some of the CORE requirement classes at BSU I would not have put much thought into what movies I watch or what books I read. Now though, I try to find things that are not going to be enjoyable but will also leave me with something.

Take Ma Vie En Rose as an example. I absolutely love that movie. It is definitely not something I would have discovered on my own but not only does it have an amazing message about accepting people but it also was an amazing work. The acting did not look forced or as I like to say it looked like I was a part of their lives witnessing the things happening to them as they did. I would highly suggest it to anyone and because I’m so picky I do not normally say that.

In terms of books, I do not like books that sound like Twilight no offense to the author or to anyone who enjoys that series.  I like books that have more depth to them. If I am going to sit and read for a number of hours I want to not only enjoy myself but to also learn something.

I will admit to reading some books that do not have any educational value or at a reading level way below my age (I am talking about young adult here although I do not see what is wrong with reading this books…most of the time). That being said I try to give every book I pick up a fair chance. In order to do this I do not give up on most books. I will more often than not read a book start to finish even if it is horrid.
Now that I have the kindle I am being introduced to all the classics I never got a chance to read before. I am grateful I did not attempt to read them before now. I can guarantee you I would not appreciate them as amazing works as I do now.

I was just reading through this post again and I have to respond to this: "For example, it has gotten to the point where watching movies isn’t nearly as enjoyable as it once was. I feel the EXACT SAME WAY about video games and animated movies now that I'm learning how to do that stuff. I can't even enjoy the game/movie anymore because I'm too distracted thinking about all the different techniques and going "ohh, they could've done a better job with that, they should've done this instead..." ughhh. Learning stuff really ruins your fun!! D:
