China: T-minus 56 days

It is amazing that in less than two months I will be in China. I will be in Beijing sleeping hopefully because we are 12 hours behind.

I can't believe that the trip is actually happening. I don't know why but I didn't actually see myself going. I knew I was going to apply back in March and that I had a good shot of getting accepted but I never thought I'd send in my deposit and you know actually make an effort into going.

Now that there are less than two months away I'm beginning to freak out a lot. I'm terrified of a lot things that have to do with the trip. The following is just a short list:

- running out of money (i tend to buy stupid things)
- getting lost (I don't speak Chinese)
- not being able to speak Chinese
- being wicked homesick (this ruined my trip to Spain)
- getting sick (I tend to get sick at the worse possible moments)
- forgetting something I really need and not being able to find it in China
- the shots I'm getting on Tuesday (TERRIFIED of needles)
- adapter not working
- embarrassing not only myself but the people I'm going with

I'm sure there are others that I can't think of at the moment, those are just the things that are on my mind right now. I tend to over worry about everything really. So this trip has me in a tizzy

As part of the grade for our trip we have to document our experiences there either in a blog or through journal entries. I'm planning (if allowed that is) to use this to document everything.  I will try to not only post as often as possible but to also post pictures so you can see what I'm seeing.

Random note: If you'd like to receive a postcard from China and/or Hong Kong leave a comment and I will contact you either via facebook or twitter or in person asking for your address.

So question to my readers: what should I make sure to bring with me? As classes end tomorrow and finals finish the end of this week I will have more time to worry and make multiple lists in preparation for my trip. I’m curious to see if I’m bringing what you think is important or if I totally forgot it and need to run out and get it!

  1. SO excited for you! You have nothing to worry about, you're going to have an amazing time...I promise. I suggest trying a free demo of Rosetta Stone to learn Mandarin. It's literally the fastest and easiest way to learn a language.

    P.S. Send me a postcard!

  2. Thanks for the tip Kayla! I tried learning it with living language but it was organized weirdly so it really didn't help.
